Tyson started off his career by doing photo shoots for celebrity photographers Bruce Weber and Herb Ritts. Through them he had a chance meeting with Ralph Lauren, who eventually signed the twenty-three-year-old Beckford as a lead model for their Polo line of male sportswear in 1993. As a result he appeared on the pages GQ, Details, vibe, Men's Health, Vogue, Essence, Health & Fitness, The New York Times, and other publications.
Tyson Beckford has also appeared on television shows for Oprah, Vibe, Mia X, Rosie O'Donnel, Notorious B.I.G., Mad TV, Good Morning America, Shaquille O'Neal, Jay Leno, The Magic Hour, Nickelodeon, Entertainment Tonight, Video Soul and Teen Summit, Keenan Ivory Wayans, and E! Entertainment.
